The Special Sauce strain from Kalbra smells very green, with notes of cut grass and a hint of a sour, almost gasoline-like scent. There was also a hint of lemon, slightly tart and tangy, that mingled the herbal and sour flavors nicely with the skunky notes expected from traditional cannabis.
This high-CBD hemp flower tastes refreshing—herbal and earthy, but with a pleasant brightness to it, similar to a light-roast coffee. It is especially enjoyable in a water pipe.
The buds themselves are a bit smaller than most of the other strains we tried from Kalbra, and were a deep piney green with a pronounced layer of crystals complemented by spindly, red-orange hairs. They are subtly sticky, barely noticeable at first but definitely enough to leave a thin film of resin and crystals on your fingertips after breaking some up by hand.
Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity):
Since this is an inhaled product (unless you choose to make your own CBD oil with these flowers), the effects come on very quickly. We feel relief from anxiety and stress moments after our first hit, and felt pain relief within a few puffs. The effects compound with each hit, so you can easily fine-tune your dose as needed, taking more until you feel better.
We feel relief from chronic pain, anxiety, arthritis, depression, PMS symptoms, and menstrual cramping for about four hours after consumption, with peak effects around 30-45 minutes in. Since the effects set in so quickly, this strain is ideal for treating sudden symptoms like anxiety attacks or muscle spasms.
Best used for:
The beauty of this raw, organic hemp flower is that, unless you’re averse to or chose not to smoke, it can be used to treat any condition you would otherwise use CBD extract for, from epilepsy to cancer to cardiovascular disease. It’s particularly useful for treating sudden flare-ups of symptoms, like panic attacks or nausea.
Because it doesn’t contain high levels of THC, this hemp flower can be used to make your own CBD oil at home, making it an excellent option for people looking to incorporate CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids into their food at higher doses, as it’s more cost-effective than tinctures and other premade extracts.
Best used with (Complimentary Product):
This is an excellent systemic product, but if you find yourself in need of more localized pain relief (such as for joint pain or after an injury), you might want to consider a topical CBD salve or muscle rub to alleviate inflammation and pain at the site. If you need full-body relief, try a CBD-infused bath bomb to soak away soreness and reduce stress.
Containing 18.97% CBD, this strain is one of the higher-potency varieties available from Kalbra. At $10 per gram (a price that drops off significantly when purchased in higher quantities), the 189.7 mg of CBD contained within that gram cost about $0.05 per milligram, making this raw flower much more affordable than even the cheapest of extracts.
This low cost per milligram makes this raw hemp flower an excellent option for people looking to make their own CBD extract or tinctures at home, whether to make CBD more affordable or for the ability to know exactly what’s in their extract.
CBD extracts have been steadily growing in popularity for a number of years now, but interest in high-quality, smokable hemp flower is relatively new: there are a few growers experimenting with it, but Kalbra is far and away the best. Their attention to detail and passion for cannabis is evident in the strains they breed and cultivate—their strains smoke like top-shelf cannabis in every way except the high.
